Healthy Habits

It's been a while since my last blog but here I am again.  I will try to post as often as I can.  For now, I'd like to share my journey to staying healthy.

I'm neither a nutritionist nor a dietician but I am an aspiring chef and a confirmed food lover.  In short, I love food too much. ;-)
I refuse to let the word diet take over my life and I don't think you should, either.  I am an avid fan of smart eating - it's not about settling for less; it's about loading more good and nutritious stuff on your plate.  Mind you, I give myself a slack every now and then.  Hmmmm.....sweet potato fries, chic-fil-a fries and more fries, pasta, pecan pie ala mode. Uh oh I just said it!  I do try to stay on top of my healthy eating.  I choose to eat well and stay fit because I love my body, I love my life and above all, I love the way healthy eating makes me feel.
Eating right and staying fit are some of the most important things you can do to protect yourself and your family from diseases.  Staying fit involves more effort than just working out a few times a week.  While it's certainly important to work out, eating the right food is equally important.
To start this whole smart and healthy eating, remember that the PATH you follow in the grocery store could help you eat right and avoid wasting money on products you don't need. SHOP the perimeter.  Have you ever wondered why most grocery stores put milk or produce as far away from the entrance as possible?  Supermarkets hope to lure shoppers into buying other goods in the store on the way to the products they really need.  STICK to the edges of the store and stick to your healthy eating plan!

Continuation.........

As mentioned above, I'll be posting healthy meal plans, home remedies and maybe some of my secret work out routines so stick around. ;-)

The Mission: Discover Texas' Best French Toast - Part II

This time - it's Benjy's Famous Crunchy French Toast.
Nut crusted challah with three fruit coulis and seasonal berries.

I like it but on a scale of 1-10, I'd give it a 7.  If you like nutty french toast, then this is for you.

The Mission: Discover Texas' Best French Toast

I am nothing without my obsessive need to find the best places for a good brunch or dine experience. Believe it or not, it makes my culinary brain start spinning when I hear of new cuisine. With food being my first love ;-) it's hard to stay away from it especially in Houston. So, if you are on a strict diet - forget it because everywhere you go in Houston, you'll smell the food. I, for one, have the biggest craving for delectable goodies. Every time I go out to eat, I feel the need to have a bite of that chocolate lava cake from Fleming's Prime Steakhouse or molten lava cake from Flying Saucer as well as the snowberry cake from Chocolate Bar except when I'm 101% full.

Breakfast is something most of us enjoy any time of the day or night!
I, personally, love cooking - gourmet food that is. I don't like preparing my own breakfast on a lazy weekend but I don't mind gluing myself in front of the computer just to read all the reviews of different restaurants...pretty crazy but for the love of food, I will do it in a heart beat!
Well, enough said because I'm excited about our RATHER SWEET experience in Fredericksburg.

Carlos and I went on a little getaway to Fredericksburg. This place is lush, colorful and full of beautiful green hills.
You will discover a feast of tantalizing flavors from taste of the Old-World German favorites to new and exciting fusion created for our dining pleasure.
It was a delicious weekend or should I say a weekend full of EXCELLENT FOOD - AUTHENTIC FREDERICKSBURG EXPERIENCE.
We stayed at Kingwood Suites. They don't provide an actual in-room breakfast but they do provide you a voucher for breakfast at one of three little bakeries. Rather Sweet Bakery & Cafe was one of them. This place was also highly recommended by Carlos' friend, Marc...kudos to you!
Tucked behind a couple of shops. In front of the little shop is a shaded courtyard with little tables and water fountain. It's very cozy and charming. You'll see a big selection of baked goods - from lemon bars, cakes, triple chocolate cookies, kolaches, muffins, cinnamon rolls, you name it. BUT THE BEST PART WAS the FRENCH TOAST. It sure did cure my sweet tooth! These pictures don't do justice, you have to be there to experience the scrumptious, decadent and rich goodness of Rather Sweet French Toast!

It's a must try if you're in Fredericksburg. You never know, you might run into the Pastry Queen, herself.
